4 Tips on Building Self Love in the New Year
4 Ways You Can Love Yourself in 2023
The new year is a great time to start making positive life changes—and we’re not just talking about resolutions. You can challenge yourself to go to the gym more or lose a certain amount of weight all you want, but that’s not the only way to make yourself healthier. We at Popilush make our shapewear with self love in mind—we want you to feel confident in loving yourself and embracing your body.
At the same time, we know that self love is sometimes easier said than done. So with that in mind, we’re delving into some self love tips for 2023… Which we’ve made with everyone in mind.
1. Get Creative If You’re Working Out
We’re not saying don’t go to the gym—if the gym is working for you, keep it up. But for some of us, the gym can be such an unpleasant experience that we end up avoiding it for the long term. You don’t have to give up exercising altogether, and you shouldn’t. Exercise is great for both the mind and body, burning off nervous energy and releasing crucial endorphins. But why not consider trying something a bit more meditative, like yoga or even swimming? You may also want to pick up hiking—getting your steps in while enjoying nature. Even if the gym is working for you, changing it up a bit can keep you from getting bored.
2. Meet New People
You love your friends—but it’s always good to have more, and to meet acquaintances with whom you have things in common. Yes, meeting new people in person in this day and age is difficult… but it’s not impossible! Try joining local clubs or meetup groups to meet new people. You can also try apps for meeting platonic friends—yes, Bumble does have a friends version! Hanging out with new people is a great way to spice up your life a bit, and that can help you as you move towards self love.
3. Check In on Your Mental Health
Here’s the thing—you don’t have to be on top of your mental health to practice self love. Ideally, practicing self love will be better for your mental health in the long term. But checking in on your own mental health regularly is good for you in the long term. This doesn’t mean taking medication—though that is the right move for some. You could also speak to a therapist. No matter what, staying on top of your mental health is an important part of caring for yourself and more importantly loving yourself.
4. Track Your Habits
A great way to not only practice self love in the new year, but better your life, is to keep track of your habits. This way you can give yourself props for your good habits, and be aware of those that you’d like to lessen as the year progresses. A habit tracker could come in the form of an app, or it could be as simple as a journal or datebook. Don’t be hard on yourself or focus on breaking habits; simply track them.
Remember—self love is about self acceptance, and we don’t recommend focusing on changing yourself. We simply recommend being more aware of yourself, and building an attitude of self love and acceptance that’s good for you.
